Early season skiing in Morzine: it’s snow problem

This is a resort able to hold its own against the ‘classic’ high-altitude resorts here in the Alps.

It’s no lie, we have not been blessed with the best of snow seasons over the past couple of years.

Guests are now climbing higher to find ‘snow sure’ resorts, the higher the altitude, the higher the price tag. If you can get onto a glacier – you are in for a good ski… and so it goes.

BUT, what if we let you into a secret… what if we tell you that, in fact, the Portes du Soleil is one of the snowiest regions anywhere in the Alps.

Avoriaz, has a seasonal snowfall of almost 7m, and is one of the top 10 snowiest resorts anywhere in Europe. The Portes du Soleil has an average snow base depth of 120cm which has been maintained throughout the last 3 seasons.

One of the top 10 snowiest resorts anywhere in Europe

The Portes du Soleil has earned its reputation as a world class ski area not just for its extensive and perfectly groomed network of 650kms of pistes, but for the length of its season and the quality of its snow.

Not only that, but it is within easy reach of Geneva airport, transfer time to Morzine is approx. 1hr 15min. Great if you are travelling with young children or looking for a weekend get-away. Many of our guests jump on the first flight out of the UK and are on the slopes by lunchtime!

Snow is already dusting the top of the mountain peaks, teasing us with its presence… winter is coming!

Over the last 3 seasons, Avoriaz has had an average snow depth of almost 40cm by the time the season began in early December. Morzine has also maintained an average snow depth of more than 50cms and enjoyed more than 30 snowy days last year.

Still worried about being able to ski at the start of the winter season? Over 450 snow cannons across Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets help to maintain conditions throughout the season.

The Portes du Soleil has invested millions into snow production technology.

Morzine should not be judged on its altitude alone. With access to fantastic skiing just above the resort, as well as at the high-altitude resort of Avoriaz, combined with heavy snowfalls, multimillion pound investments in snow making technology, this is a resort able to hold its own against the ‘classic’ high-altitude resorts here in the Alps.

SO, come and join Sharon, Craig & the team at Freedom Ski for the first ski of the season… over the past 15 years, Sharon has skied on the 15th December every, single, year!
