Avoiding injury on the slopes: 6 weeks to ski fitness!

There are few things as frustrating as missing out on a day on the slopes due to illness or injury. At Freedom Ski, despite our love of the mountains and the outdoor lifestyle, we are sometimes forced to recognise that skiing and snowboarding do carry some risk of injury.

However, like most activities, it is possible to mitigate many of the risks involved with a little forward planning.

During the 2017/2018 winter season, Freedom Ski will be working in collaboration with Mountain Rehab Morzine to offer sports massage, physiotherapy and deep-tissue massage in our in-chalet treatment rooms.

Additionally, Mountain Rehab have developed a 6-week programme of exercises to help ensure you remain injury free throughout your skiing holiday. These exercises focus on strengh and balance in the key muscle groups used for skiing and snowboarding. The proposed programme offers 5 simple exercises which can be done either at home, or in the gym, and require no equipment. The programme is available as a printable PDF to stick to your fridge or take along to the gym, or as a follow along at home video.

The exercises offer different levels of difficulty, allowing you to adapt your workout to your fitness level, or to ramp up the difficulty level as your ski holiday approaches.
